Coupon rules
There are some rules, common sense things and just general information you should know if you want to use coupons.
The first and the biggest is to never ever pay for coupons. If you actually read the fine print on the coupon, they are technically void if you buy or sell them. Obviously no one will know if you do but its an honor code thing. Some people have been caught doing it on a large scale and have been sent to jail for it. Just don't do it, it makes couponers look bad and why buy them when you don't have to.
Next, never copy coupons. I have had people tell me when I am looking for extra copies of a certain coupon to just make a photo copy. This is so illegal. When a store turns them in to be reimbursed for the value of them, they have to put in the coupons ID number. If that number has already been used before, that store does not get that money back. If it happens enough they will get tougher and tougher on coupons, making it harder for us all to save. Online coupons have a print limit of 2 per computer. If you need more prints and you don't have a second computer, try asking friends to print them off for you.
A lot of times cashiers get frustrated with coupons and their users because they see them as a hassle. My policy has always to be kind and grateful for their extra help, this is usually all it takes to get a nice experience.
Never take your coupons out right when you are about to pay and try to organize them or find them then. Remember you are not the only one in line and try your best to keep the line moving. Take time before check out to get your coupons in order.
Try not to call too much attention to yourself. I know its fun to point out all the awesome stuff you got for free, but don't do it in the store. Brag here on the page. If you do it in the store other customers may get upset that they are paying for what you just got for free.
If you follow these easy rules your savings will come easier and it will be a more pleasant experience.

Where to find coupons
Coupons are everywhere these days. The three main ways are through the Sunday/weekend paper or online from a myriad of sites. There are many sites that will try to sell coupons and it is important to know that it is illegal to buy, copy or sell coupons.
Some of the best coupons come in the Sunday/weekend paper in my opinion. I typically buy the weekend edition of the LA Times. This edition is 1.50 vs. 2.00 for the Sunday paper. Its important to note that all papers print different versions of the coupon inserts. There may be some slight variations in coupons, values and placing depending on which paper you buy. When I get my paper I ALWAYS check to make sure the paper has all the inserts in it. There have been many times when I have gotten home with my papers, only to find someone has stolen my inserts.
The name of the inserts that may come in your paper are:
Red Plum
Smart Source
P&G
Occasionally there are other random ones put out but these are the main ones. All do not always come, they are on a schedule and are put out accordingly. For example, the P&G insert only comes once a month, typically the first sunday of the month.
Online is your other resource. The sites I use and that are reputable are:
Coupons.com
Couponnetwork.com
target.coupons.com
redplum.com
smartsource.com
commonkindness.com
walmart.com/coupons
There are many more sites out there but these are the ones I use most often. You can also check your favorite brands websites or facebook pages for offers and coupons. Many times companies will give away high value coupons on their sites or pages. Its one of the best ways to get coupons that will get you free items.
